5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing for the price., January 12, 2011
This review is from: Dean Edge 10 Active PJ Bass, Classic Black (Electronics)
I bought one of these earlier in the week at a Best Buy that has a musical instruments section. I needed a new bass as I would be helping out a friend record a new set of tunes and I was both out of practice and my old, scarred Rickenbacker 4003 was not up to the task. Since a new Rick would set me back around $2k, I had to find a different solution and fast. I played half a dozen basses costing a whole lot more that couldn't hold a candle to this little gem.

My only regret is that it didn't come in some kind of wood tone finish. But, forget that, this thing is smooth playing with an unfinished neck, which I prefer. The action is reasonably low and the active pickups impressed me with their ability to get growl when I asked for it. The P/J setup is really versatile and having been a strictly passive single-coil kinda guy for a long time I figured with a new instrument should come a new attitude. What I could not believe was how solid the bridge is on this bass... Read more

I've been playing guitar for years and wanted to get a inexpensive bass to mess around with.

Overall I'm very happy with the Edge 10. It looks and sounds great. It is surprisingly light and comfortable to hold (standing or sitting), at the same time, it feels solid and well made.

One thing to note is that it is a 35-inch scale, which means the neck is longer and the frets a bit wider than a "standard" bass. This is fine with me, but if you are a younger player or have smaller hands it might be an issue. Also keep the 35-inch scale in mind when you are buying new strings.

Bottom line - great looking, great sounding, and you can't beat the price.

My wife got this for me for Christmas, and I have loved it! I am not a bass player, but I wanted to get a bass to start learning, hoping that the transition from 6-string to a 4-string bass would not be too big of a change. I feel like this was a great guitar to accomplish this.

The fit and finish was great, and I had no problems pugging it right up and getting started right away. There is a lot of control available for a just-above-entry-level guitar. With two active pickups (9v battery required) it provides a lot of sensitivity that you can only get from an active pickup, and individual volume and tone control knobs for each pickup. Tuners are smooth, and the action on the fretboard is just perfect.

My only complaint is actually not the guitar's fault- the active pickups drain your 9v relatively quickly, so make sure you have some spares around, or you may not be playing amplified. . . It would also be nice if the knobs were marked- or even if there were... Read more
