5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, January 2, 2012

Customer Video Review Length:: 3:58 Mins

A review and sound comparison of the Saga Jazz (JB-10) and Saga Jazz Fretless (JB-12) bass kits. Both basses were built using only in-the-kit parts. The basses were recorded using Logic Pro on a Macbook and a Zoom B2.1u (with no effects of filters engaged). I love both of these basses.

This kit is well-machined and goes together pretty easily, assuming you know a little about woodworking and connecting wires. Just be darn sure you know how to do it and that the box you get has all the parts it's supposed to, because Saga has no interest whatsoever in providing customer assistance. They never *ever* respond to e-mail, and when I called to verify a part number (one of the pickups), the person at Saga said I needed to return the entire kit to have it looked at. I asked him if he could just check his parts list, and he hung up on me. Ouch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Saga Jazz Bass, August 8, 2011

The Saga Jazz Bass kit turned out a lot better than I anticipated and should rate this review at 4 1/2 stars. We were pleased with the overall quality of the kit even though other reviews share quality ratings all over the spectrum. This is not a project for a total rookie to wood working or luthier craft, but you will gain a vast amount of knowledge and skills in this relatively easy project - don't be in a hurry. Mine took 6 weeks to build.

The body was 2 piece and ready to paint. The sanding sealer job was great and no dings anywhere on the body. The neck was of good construction and not warped. Assembly went very smooth. I probably should have bought a custom engraved neck plate of which there are dozens on eBay to help in the customization of this guitar. I swapped out the pick guard with a pearl white guard found on eBay. The tuners went together and while I had no issue with the screws I did have to re-drill a few holes that were out of alignment. Be sure to fill... Read more
