5.0 out of 5 stars Great Budget Bass Guitar, August 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Yamaha RBX170 Bass Old Violin Sunburst
First of all, a disclaimer - I am just a beginner and just wanted something affordable that I could learn with. That said, I bought this bass guitar based on the many reviews I read on Amazon as well as other sites. To be quite frank, I wasn't expecting much when I ordered this item, but was presently surprised at the appearance and quality when I opened the package. This item looks and feels like it should cost more than it actually does.

As far as playability, this guitar feels very comfortable with a thinner neck than what I've played on other basses. To me, that's a plus as I feel I could move up and down the fretboard with relative ease. Sound is very good, and a nice feature is that it has one P and one J pickup to help you customize the sound you want. Overall, this is a very good bass guitar and would recommend it to anyone.

Only one caveat - change the strings when you receive it, as the stock strings the guitar is shipped with are not that great. Other... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The Price is Right, May 11, 2012

This review is from: Yamaha RBX170 Bass Old Violin Sunburst
I have played guitar for many years, but when I wanted a bass guitar I was a little weary of buying some imitation brand or poor quality model given the small budget I had.
When I read that this is as cheap as Yamaha gets and that they wouldn't compromise their solid reputation by making a throw-away, I sensed this was the one.
It met my budget at the same time as being ideal for my beginner's status; it is lightweight and slim with a fret-board worthy of Goldilock's refined tastes: not too wide, not too narrow.
The machine heads have a nice feel for easy and accurate tuning and the shape of the body fits snuggly into your lap.
A treat for the modest beginner.

Epiphone Nikki Sixx Signature Blackbird Bass Guitar, Pitch Black Satin

Product Description

It doesn't get more iconically metal than Epiphone's Nikki Sixx Blackbird solidbody electric bass. This totally awesome instrument lets you tap into the earth-shattering bass tone of Motley Crue's infamous Nikki Sixx, whose sound and style were instrumental in shaping the world of modern metal. Talk about thunderous lows - this beast comes equipped with a pair of chest-pounding custom DeepSixx humbuckers. What's more, they're directly wired to the Nikki Sixx Blackbird bass's output - no silly volume or tone pots to muddy up your tone here! And that's just part of what makes the Epiphone Nikki Sixx Blackbird solidbody electric bass so cool.

  • Neck: DeepSixx R Bass humbucker

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Bass but Would rather have the traditional Thunderbird, January 24, 2012
This review is from: Epiphone Nikki Sixx Signature Blackbird Bass Guitar, Pitch Black Satin (Electronics)
First let me start by saying that I really do not care for Motley Crue, so this review will NOT be influenced by a liking for Nikki Sixx nor is it the other way around. The pickups are extremely HOT in this bass, and there is no tone or volume controls, just a kill switch. It sounds good, but it is only good for rock or metal, if you want to play clean, stay away from this one. This is an absolutely beautiful bass, I personally don't care for the iron cross inlays, but that is just a matter of personal taste. The bass is extremely heavy, and it tends to have a little neck dive. The best thing about this bass is the neck, which is EXTRAORDINARILY comfortable. It stays in tune very well, and the build quality is very nice. The Opti-grab is a neat idea, some will like it, some wont, I personally don't care for it as it tends to get in my way, but it can be used to help balance the bass out a bit. The last thing is the price. It's $100 more than the regular Epiphone Thunderbird, and while... Read more
